Built for comms teams
Get every release written, approved and out on time, whether it’s your team’s or a joint one.
embargo is press release software for releases more than one person has to write or approve. Inside your organization, that’s programs, leadership and legal. Outside it, it’s the organizations you announce with. Either way, everyone works on one page, knows what’s theirs and approves the exact words, and you stop chasing.
Inside your organization
Everyone knows their part
Split the release into sections: lede, quotes, background, boilerplate. Ask the colleague who knows the story for each quote or background, with a note on what to cover and a word limit, while your editors shape the rest. Each person sees what’s waiting on them, so nobody asks you for a status update.
Leadership and legal approve the exact words
Your executive director, legal reviewer or board chair reads the finished release from their own link and approves, comments or asks for changes. If anything changes after they approve, you see what changed and decide whether to ask them again.
Quotes without the back-and-forth
Executives get one link with what to say, how long it can be and a box to write it in. No account, no password.
One version, not seven
One page replaces the attachments and the email thread. Your editors work right in the release, comments sit on the exact words in question, and if the words change after someone approves, you see exactly what changed.
With other organizations
Each organization adds its part
Ask each organization’s people for their quotes, background and boilerplate, and ask whoever you need to approve. They join free from a link in their email.
Everyone sees how they’re credited
Each organization’s people approve their own words, and anyone you ask approves the finished release before it’s public, so names, titles and boilerplates are right the first time.
On every release
Reminders that send themselves
Set a deadline and embargo sends the reminders: a countdown before it, then a nudge every two business days to anyone who’s late, at 9 in the morning wherever they are. Each day you get one note saying who’s late.
Out at the minute you set
Nothing goes public until everyone you asked has approved and the embargo lifts. An email that could reach anyone outside the release never names it, and you can give reporters an early look through a press link with your embargo terms, then switch it off at any time.
A page worth sharing
When it lifts, the release can go live on a polished page with share buttons and HTML to post on your own site, and reporters can message your media contact from it. Found a typo afterward? Correct it, and the page notes the correction.
AI only if you want it
embargo can draft an outline from your kickoff notes and a boilerplate from your website, and it works with the AI assistant you already use. You decide for each release who can use it, or turn it off.
